‘Mahatma Gandhi District’ in Texas, USA

A part of southwest Houston, Texas — home to a large number of south Asians, including Indians — has been officially renamed Mahatma Gandhi District to honour the leader for his 141st birth anniversary.


Hillcroft, an ethnic conclave, was renamed this month, fulfilling the seven-year-long demand of the over 100,000 strong Indian-American population living in the Greater Houston area.

City Mayor Annise Parker announced the change of name along with Consul-General of India in Houston, Sanjiv Arora.

National Geographic Channel crew attacked by Local People in Malappuram, Kerala

The foreign channel National Geography crew is attacked by local people in Malappuram, Kerala. According to the Malayalam News Paper Mathrubhumi, the National Geography crew came to Kerala for shooting, and they allegedly shot the bathing scene (Kuli Kadavu) of ladies. The local people at Edayapalam, Malappuram attacked them.
They came to Kerala for shooting the “Stories of Twin Babies at Kodinji (Iratta Kuttikalude gramam). On the way back they have seen the ladies bathing in a Kadavu. Then they took camera and captured the scenes. This made the local people got angry.
Foreigners Paul Nelson, Camila Bank, Veerbhadra Sing and Malayali Binni Philip were attacked by the local people. “The ladies were just washing the cloths and we captured only Kadavu scenes” – They said to police.

Bangalore Fly Over - Express Way Opened - Video

        
The much awaited Electronic City Express elevator finally inagurated. The 9-km flyover is the longest in Bangalore and the second longest in the entire country. The flyover was inaugurated by Union Minister for Surface Transport Kamal Nath. The project began in July 2006 with a time frame of two and a half years.

It's easily the most high-profile inauguration Bangalore has ever seen for a flyover.

But it's worth it. Or so the city hopes. The elevated expressway connects Bangalore's main city to the IT hub, allowing two lakh commuters to make their way to companies like Infosys faster than ever before.

Rohit and Markandeya work at IT companies. Rohit says, "I am very excited. It  used to take half an hour. Now we will go in five minutes, zip down this road." When NDTV asked what he'll do with his spare time, Markandeya chips in: "He will spend time with his girlfriend."

The existing route had become a commuter's nightmare with the infrastructure unable to cope with the infotech industry's explosive growth.

Then the idea of an elevated expressway was mooted.

"It all started with Mr. Narayana Murthy expressing a wish some years ago. He said this road has such high volume of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, I wish we build a road with stilts," said Aruna Newton, Secretary, Electronics City Industrial Association.

Construction on the 9.5 kilimetre freeway, which cost close to Rs 700 crores, began four years ago.

"There will be no people crossing the road, there will be no dogs that come in between, but then there are challenges too," said Praveen Sood, Traffic Commissioner, Bangalore.

The traffic police commissioner offers this advice, "I wish people drive responsibly on this world-class road."

Recently I was reading Interview at Rediff with Paul Zacharia, a known writer from kerala. In his his interview he expressed his view Sex and Kerala. In Interview he was asked the root of such sexual starvation. He replied "The root can be traced to many sources. The Hindu society in Kerala never had such a conservative attitude to sex and man-woman relationship. It is possible that the Christian missionary education is the reason behind this. They, by and large, look at sex as a sin. Almost hundred percent of modern education in Kerala is in Christian hands."

Another Question " It was written in a Malayalam magazine that when Arundhati Roy came to Kerala, she refused to attend a press conference. It seems she said, 'The journalists don't look at my face but look at my breasts...' "
He replied: It is very true. She expressed the truth very bluntly. The Kerala society has become very unhealthy in this matter. I don't know when the people of this state will get sexual maturity. Aluva First class magistrate court ordered 3 month imprisonment to Malayalam Film Actor Vijayakumar.
A housewife at Thrikkakara, complained that, Vijayakumar had cheated her for offering a job at America and had owned money from her.She also gave him money in installment when the job had not been got her in the right time.She filed complaint in court demanding refund of her money from the accused. Court has allowed Vijayakumar, a time period of one month to approach the higher court.

Media Reports says Google back IPL search to go Global. Telegraph Sport reported on Monday that the IPL and Google are close to agreeing a partnership and it is thought the finishing touches will be made in Mumbai today with an announcement to be made later this week. It will mean countries like Britain being able to watch IPL matches live again.

It is thought Google will stream live content from the IPL on a YouTube channel which will be available in countries which currently do not broadcast the Twenty20 league. A similar deal was struck with the International Olympic Committee in 2008 which saw highlights from the Beijing Games streamed on YouTube in 77 countries.

Yesudas Known as Dasettan in Kerala Celebrated his 70th birthday at Kollur Sree Mookambika temple. Every year he visit and offer prayers at Mookambika Temple, Kollur Karnataka for his birthday.

Born on January 10, 1940 in Fort Kochi as son of actor-singer Augustin Joseph and Elizabeth, Yesudas took early lessons from his father before encounters with leading singers and actors of those days. After completing schooling at St. Sebasitan High School at Palluruthi, he took music as his main subject, joining RLV Music College and later in the Government Music College in Thiruvananthapuram, from where he graduated with first rank.

He sung lot of Hindu devotional songs in Malayalam and other languages. Harivarasanam and Mayilppeeli songs are very popular out of that. Lord Ayyappan sleeps by hearing his voice.
In a singing career that began in 1961, he is the only singer who has bagged seven National Film Awards for best singer in the Indian film industry. With more than 40,000 film songs in several languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English, in his kitty, Yesudas’ journey in the world of music continues.

He was born as a Christian but he is a devotee of Hindu gods. In kerala he can’t enter into temples because of his religion. But outside kerala there is not that kind of restrictions in temples.

"sangeetham (music) is my pranavayu (life breath) which is bestowed to me as a special gift by goddess mookambika, the universal mother goddess," said k j yesudas, classical music maestro and renowned playback singer.

Recently Kerala had witnessed several attacks on the writers.Writer and journalist Paul Zachariah was Saturday night allegedly threatened by activists.

"The meeting got over around 6.30 p.m and I had reached the hotel where I was staying. And around 8 p.m, along with few other friends of mine, I was about to get into a car to go to the railway station when a group of DYFI activists surrounded us and started abusing us," he said.

Kerala known for hundred percentage literacy but Kerala have a bad name because for dirty politics. The are not ready to leave the writer also if they made any public opinion. The communist party is struggling in Kerala after the Loksabha elections. The congress led front got the majority of seats in the last election.

No company outside Kerala is not willing to start business in Kerala. Why? the reason is simple. The companies are running for earn profits. Nobody is doing business for charity.

The politicians in Kerala is always trying to divide and rule according to religion, cast and ideology. Some time it turning against them. The proof for that was last loksabha election results. Especially both fronts of kerala Right front and left front trying to induct the minority religion people in to their party. This results in giving election seats for minority religion spiritual leaders. Actually these parties aimed Minority Vote Bank and their money. But indirectly this affected the majority people votes. They started realizing that these two side parties are not doing any thing for the majority. Recently two former MP's resigned from Communist party because of their religious thoughts. These parties ignored the people who worked for the party and given tickets to the people who are not following communist ideology but spiritual way.

Hope Kerala will change slowly to state of good thoughts....

In India we lost couple of writers and Film related people last year. Among them Malayalam & English writer Madhavikutty known as Kamala Das passed way in the middle of 2009. AK Lohithadas the well known script writer who gave super hits for Malayalam Super Star Mohanlal and Mammootty Passed away in 2009. Kireedam & Bharatham were few of them. We lost another versatile Malayalam Actor Murali and Rajan P Dev.
