The famous Guruvayoor Arattu will be on Sunday about 10 PM. The 10 days festival will end on sunday with the Arattu of Lord Guruvayoorappan at Rudratheertham. The Poojaris (Namboothiri) do the Aavahanam of the auspicius rivers like Ganga, Kaveri and Godavari to the Rudratheertham. Then the the Tanthri Namboothirpad will do Abhishekam with Manjal Powder(turmeric) and tender coconut (ilaneer)on the Thidambu (temporary idol of guruvayoorappan)and do bath (Snanam) along with the thidambu. Doing snanam along with Arattu is considered as auspicious.
The Ten day Guruvayur festival signifies the occasion of restoration of divine Chaitanya. Thirty-three-year-old Gopi Kannan of Guruvayur Devaswom won the elephant race (‘aanayottam’) here on Friday. The Guruvayur festival also showcases the cultural heritage of the region as the locals perform the traditional dances and music. The enticing dance dramas based on the myths and legends of Lord Krishna’s life are regular proceedings during the festival days.
